Letter to the CEO of Instructure requesting information to ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act or FERPA.

Letter to Chief State School Officers regarding the applicability of FERPA to the disclosure of personally identifiable information for students’ education records used to automatically enroll eligible children in the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer Program (Summer EBT). 

Letter to institutions of postsecondary education regarding the applicability of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to the disclosure of certain personally identifiable information from student education records to representatives of the U. S. Census Bureau (Bureau) who are conducting Group Quarters (GQ) or group housing data collection for the American Community Survey (ACS). Unlike the decennial census, the ACS is an on-going monthly survey of a sample of housing units and GQs, but the guidance is consistent with census collections. 

Letter on the applicability of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to the disclosure by IHEs or postsecondary institutions of certain personally identifiable information (PII) from student education records to representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau (Bureau) in connection with the 2020 Census.

Letter to School & College Legal Services of California in regards to a question about whether FERPA permits a school district to disclose personally identifiable information (PII) from a student’s “health records, such as immunizations data,” to county or State health officials without parental consent.

This is an SPPO investigation findings letter to Agora Cyber Charter School relating to FERPA requirements when contracting for online educational services and restrictions on the forced waiver of parental rights to access educational services.

Letter in response to an inquiry on FERPA regarding a request from a parent for a copy of a suveillance video of a hazing incident involving multiple students, and for copies of witness statements regarding the incident.

This letter was sent to Liberty University in regards to a request for clarification on the extent FERPA would require Liberty University to provide individuals allegedly involved in fraud rings with the opportunity to inspect and review investigation reports prepared by the University related to suspected financial aid fraud.  

This Dear Colleague Letter details how the Every Student Succeeds act affects the military recruiter provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
